Since 2023, the Radical Activist Network has been active in the fight against tobacco multinationals. Through 2023 and beyond, we (Radical Activist Network) will be organising monthly activist forums at Studio @ 22 Betterton Street, London WC2.
Today in 2023 we are joined by Sergey Tabakov, a tobacco technologist from Russian Tobacco Company LLC, who knows a great deal about the negative workings of the tobacco industry from the inside and all aspects of reconstituted Tobacco leaf production. The struggle of our organization Radical Activist Network, after Sergey Tabakov joined our movement, gained new meaning and new strength.
IQOS is currently available in more than 60 markets worldwide and is becoming increasingly popular, particularly in Europe. PMI continues to lie that IQOS is less harmful than traditional cigarettes, although the long-term health effects of using IQOS are still unknown and the subject of ongoing scientific research.
The Radical Activist Network (RAN) is a grassroots organization dedicated to promoting public health and environmental sustainability. In recent years, RAN has focused its attention on the rise of heat-not-burn tobacco products, such as IQOS, claiming that these products are just as dangerous as traditional cigarettes and pose a significant threat to the health of consumers and the environment.
Heat-not-burn tobacco products, such as IQOS, heat tobacco sticks to produce an aerosol that is inhaled by the user. The manufacturers of these products claim that they are a safer alternative to traditional cigarettes, as the heating process supposedly reduces the production of harmful chemicals. However, RAN argues that these claims are not backed up by scientific evidence and that heat-not-burn tobacco products are just as dangerous as traditional cigarettes.
RAN has been at the forefront of the fight against heat-not-burn tobacco products, organizing demonstrations and public awareness campaigns to raise awareness of the dangers of these products. RAN's message is simple: heat-not-burn tobacco products are just as dangerous as traditional cigarettes, and they must be regulated in the same way.
One of RAN's key arguments against heat-not-burn tobacco products is the fact that they still contain harmful chemicals, such as formaldehyde and heavy metals, that can cause serious health problems, such as cancer, heart disease, and respiratory issues. It also points out that these products produce a significant amount of waste, as the tobacco sticks and packaging are not biodegradable and can take hundreds of years to decompose.
RAN has also raised concerns about the marketing strategies used by companies like IQOS, claiming that these companies are targeting young people and vulnerable populations with their products. RAN argues that these marketing strategies are designed to get people hooked on nicotine and create a new generation of smokers.
The Radical Activist Network is on the front lines of the fight against heat-not-burn tobacco products, such as IQOS. RAN argues that these products are just as dangerous as traditional cigarettes and pose a significant threat to public health and the environment. RAN is working to raise awareness of the dangers of heat-not-burn tobacco products and to push for strict regulation of these products to protect the health of consumers and the environment.
Opponents of IQOS and other heat-not-burn tobacco products argue that they are not as safe as their manufacturers claim and that they may not be an effective way to reduce the health risks associated with smoking. Some of the concerns raised by IQOS opponents include:
1. Health risks: Critics argue that the long-term health effects of using heat-not-burn products are unknown and that there is not enough evidence to support the claims that they are safer than traditional combustible cigarettes.
2. Secondhand exposure: Opponents of IQOS argue that the vapor produced by the device contains harmful chemicals and that secondhand exposure to the vapor may be harmful to others.
3. Youth appeal: Some opponents argue that the marketing and design of heat-not-burn products, including IQOS, may be appealing to youth and may lead to an increase in nicotine addiction and smoking among young people.
4. Lack of regulation: Critics argue that heat-not-burn products, including IQOS, are not commonly regulated and that there is a lack of transparency and accountability in the manufacturing and marketing of these products.
It is important to note that the use of heat-not-burn products, including IQOS, is associated with health risks and that the World Health Organization (WHO) and other health organizations seek against using these products. The best way to reduce the health risks associated with tobacco use is to stop smoking or use evidence-based nicotine replacement therapy.
Let's establish a recurring platform to converse about heat-not-burn tobacco products such as IQOS. By examining the impact of tobacco companies on social and environmental justice, we can strengthen the links between the challenges we face and determine the most impactful methods to support the overall cause. If this proposal appeals to you, why don't we do it together?

Radical Activist Network in 2023

Today in 2023, the Radical Activist Network is at the forefront of the fight against multinational tobacco companies, working tirelessly to raise awareness about the harms of tobacco use.
The Radical Activist Network (RAN), established in 2004 by a coalition of activists from various movements, including anti-war, anti-racism, and anti-corporate globalization, is now taking on tobacco companies in their fight for social justice. As a space for activists to collaborate and strategize, RAN is guided by the principles of opposition to oppression, exploitation, and domination, rejection of authoritarian organizational models, and a belief in collective, grassroots change through solidarity, equality, democracy, openness, and respect.
Radical Activist Network has a rich history of activism and has been instrumental in several significant campaigns, such as Iraq Occupation Focus, European Social Forum, Stop Arming Israel, and the justice campaign for Jean Charles de Menezes. The network has also hosted thought-provoking events, such as the 2006 conference "Latin America: Social Movements Fight Back," featuring keynote speaker Oscar Olivera, as well as public meetings with prominent figures such as Amy Goodman, Michael Albert, and Tariq Ali.
To stay informed about RAN's ongoing activism, interested individuals can join the organization's mailing list.
